Three ways to stay grounded

What does it mean to feel well balanced and sensible in today’s world? Being grounded generally refers to being present, and finding connection between your physical and spiritual energies. Personally, being grounded for me, is feeling at home with myself.

When you’re grounded you feel centred, balanced and in harmony with whatever goes on around you. Being grounded could mean you have a strong connection with who you are, which brings you physical and emotional balance. If you’re not grounded you can feel easily distracted, lack focus and thrown off balance quickly, like a leaf in the wind.

Unfortunately for me, I was unaware of being ungrounded and carried on trying to survive each day. I was busy “doing” rather than “being”. That is until I began to claim my well-being. And these are some of my reflections that I hope you find helpful.

Disconnect from mindlessness

Easier said than done, eh? But you’ll be surprised how effortless it can feel once you have made that conscious decision to rise above the toxicity of? Keep away from acting without justification and show more concern for the consequences. Be accountable for your own consciousness and mindlessness will slowly fade away.

Practice breathwork

Breathwork refers to any type of breathing exercises or techniques. It is often performed to improve mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. During breathwork you are intentionally changing your breathing pattern, evoking your body’s relaxation response. Practising good, deep breathing techniques help you deepen that connection with yourself. Breathwork and grounding meditation are very simple, yet effective, ways of staying grounded.

Disconnect from mindlessness

This is probably the easiest way to ground yourself. Nature can generate many positive emotions, such as calmness, joy, and creativity. Go for a nice long walk (preferably without your phone), grow plants, get a bird feeder and take in the sights and sounds around you.

Feeling grounded again is easier than expected, it is working on staying grounded that needs more effort. These tips work best when practised regularly, and keep you functioning at your best.

Practising good, deep breathing techniques help you deepen that connection with yourself.
